Recipe: Tom Yum Soup π
Ingredients π
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 stalks lemongrass, crushed and chopped
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 4 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 8 ounces cooked shrimp or tofu (optional)

Step 1 π
Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic, lemongrass, ginger root, and red pepper flakes; cook and stir until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Pour in the fish sauce, brown sugar, and chicken broth; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.

Stir in the mushrooms; cook for 5 minutes more. Stir in the cilantro and lime juice; simmer for 5 minutes more. Add the shrimp or tofu (if using); cook until heated through, about 5 minutes more. Serve hot.
