Recipe: Venezuelan Arepas π
Ingredients π
- 2 cups masarepa (precooked white cornmeal)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup queso blanco (white cheese) or mozzarella, shredded
- 1 tablespoon butter

Step 1 π
In a large bowl, mix together the masarepa, salt, and lukewarm water until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape them into round discs about 4 inches in diameter.
Step 2 π
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the arepas one at a time to the pan and cook for 5 to 6 minutes on each side until golden brown. Once cooked, top each arepa with some of the cheese and butter. Serve immediately.
